What We Dodged

There have been plenty of photos and videos to emerge since Hurricane Ian wreaked almost unimaginable destruction along the SW Florida coastline.

As you know, Fort Myers was particularly hard hit from a storm that defied early projections and continued inching eastward as it barreled north up through the Gulf.

Fort Myers is the county seat for Lee County, whose leaders stalled in issuing evacuation orders, anticipating (wrongly), or maybe praying, that the storm would pass them by.

It didn’t. And below is what happened. It’s painful to watch, but do it.

And think about the risks of ignoring the next evacuation order to come here in St. Johns County.
