Tropical System may be Forming

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami are watching a weather system brewing in the eastern Atlantic this weekend and give it high odds of formation into something more significant. The system is currently in the eastern Atlantic moving westward at 15-20 mph toward the Caribbean and the US mainland.

Amid the system’s showers and thunderstorms, forecasters detect signs of organization and potentially the formation of a tropical wave, the initial stage in tropical weather development. They assign a 90% chance of formation in the next 7 days.

The 2023 hurricane season officially got underway 18 days ago on June 1st. With this system’s potential to threaten Florida, now is a good time to review hurricane preparation plans and evacuation routes.
