If you happened to wander into the Marsh Creek Country Club Friday afternoon, you’re likely to have experienced multiple cases of “Deja Vu”.
A dozen Spoonbill Neighbor ladies took over the bar area shortly after 2pm to celebrate Dolly Parton, who passed away on August 25th at the age of 80. They wore Dolly wigs, false eyelashes, cowboy boots, makeup, glitter clothing, jewelry, and in some cases, even, ahem, temporary physical enhancements.
Dolly’s fan base impersonators above were, from left to right, Laurie Konkel, Caroline Cardenas, Louise Nelson, Bonnie Farmer, Lorraine Novinger, Donna Delzingaro, Nancy Hill, Joanne Nagliari, Penny Jones, Laurie Maloney, Sharon Wasmer, Kris Brunke.
Apparently there are some men who secretly harbor latent affections for big wigs, and big … well, you know. And a few of them jumped at the chance to, em, cross-dress in public.
To ensure these daring fellows remain gender-secure, the Spoonbill Courier will not identify them.
Informed sources tell the Spoonbill Courier that there are plans to make this an annual event.
FOR THE RECORD …. Dolly Parton Day is recognized across multiple cities and states in the United States on September 25 (9/25). The specific date was chosen as a clever nod to her smash-hit song and movie, “9 to 5”.
