First, good news: the Homeless Coalition of St. Johns County now has received adequate donations to house an expected new family in August. Thank you, for your support!
The other need the Coalition faces is backpacks and school supplies. The window is short and coming fast: August the 10th is back-to-school in St Johns County.
Currently, 28 school age children live at the Homeless Coalition Campus and they are in need of backpacks and school supplies. If you are in a generous mood, please select one or several of the unclaimed groups below, and immediately call or text Louise Nelson (321-243-0524) to confirm your choice so we avoid duplication.
Here is a current breakout (as of Wednesday morning) by age and gender:
4 years old – 1 boy
6 year old – 2 girls, 1 boy
7 year old – 2 boys
8 year old – 5 boys, 1 girl
9 year old – 1 girl
13 year old – 1 girl, 1 boy
Again, so that there is no overlapping, please select the age(s) and number(s) of backpacks and school supplies you’d like to donate as soon as possible, no later than July 30, 2023. And, either call or text Louise Nelson (321-243-0254) to let her know whom you’ve selected. Then please tag the bags with age & gender for easy distribution.
An update will be sent out every few days via Spoonbill Courier to advise how many are left to buy.
Please drop off back packs & supplies to 209 Fiddlers Point Drive by August 3rd, 2023. (Please leave them in the wooden box on the front porch if no one is home).
By the way, in 2022, there were 780 identified homeless children in St. Johns County School District. It is a huge challenge, but we are doing what we can to help through the efforts of the Homeless Coalition.
