Happening This Week

March is Minorcan Heritage Month in St. Augustine . The Minorcan presence along Florida’s Historic Coast is traced back to 1768, when Scottish speculator Dr. Andrew Turnbull cast his sight on an indigo plantation in New Smyrna. After years of strife and starvation, the Greeks and Minorcans working the plantation relocated to St. Augustine and have been an important part of the city’s cultural heritage since. During the St. Augustine City Commission meeting at 5 p.m. on February 28, the commission will proclaim March Minorcan Heritage Month. Click here to learn how you can experience more of St. Augustine’s Minorcan Heritage.
