Gator Sighting at the Park

The rumored “gator sighting” at the Mizell retention pond a few months ago has now moved from Yeti-like myth to fact, and this time, the critter in question has taken up home in Marsh Creek’s Community Park.

Mohammed Mirzai, whose own home backs up on the park, caught the gator (pictured above) in his camera’s cross-hairs Monday. From his photo, it appears to be BIG and brawny.

“I’m thinking he’s comfortably between 4-5 feet”, said Mohammed.

Three days ago, Sharon Mirzai started this off by posting the photo on the right to the Marsh Creek Facebook page. It shows what could be the same gator – although there could be more than one – and she estimated its size to be three feet in length. In the ensuing excited online discussion and debate, Sharon conceded the critter “could be” a six footer.

Today, May Management’s Dottie Kriner reported that May and the HOA are aware of the visitor, although she was not familiar with any immediate efforts to track and remove the reptile.

Ailine Helms probably said it best in a Facebook comment: “Sorry, alligator, but you only get a temporary residence in Marsh Creek- lol!”

UPDATE from HOA VP Kathy Sharpless: “We did remove a much larger fellow last year from an adjacent pond and are tracking this fellow. We will keep him in our sights.”

  1. I understand that someone at May or the HOA needs to call 1-866-392-4286 to relocate the gator. (Fl Fish And Wildlife)
