Update from Marty

Posted in deference to Marty’s many followers and friends.

All your good wishes did not get me, The Bespectacled Reader, to Maine.  Thank you all the same. On July 26th I received an email informing me that my flight had been cancelled, but not rescheduled.  So I spent a couple of days informing family and friends of my non-trip!  Needless to say, we all were/are mightily disappointed!

The good news is that my daughter-in-law decided to go anyway, driving from Williamsburg to Sebago on Thursday.  Dorothy is willing to do many of the things I had planned to do while there.  She has already found the title to my car I keep up there….in case I decide to sell it.  That was a relief!  She has picked up debris from the heavy storm that cruised through the area a week or so ago (that I wouldn’t have been able to do!).  One day this week we will FaceTime each other and go through the contents of my closet and file cabinet, getting rid of much of its contents.  Once the cabinet is empty, she can give it away to whomever!

Please don’t think of the old adage “ all work and no play”… Dorothy is enjoying her time at the cabin.  Each morning she takes her breakfast and a book down to the dock.  She goes for a swim in the lake’s bracing water temperatures.  She can go canoeing.  She is not suffering Virginia’s heat and humidity.  My son, her brother-in-law, will spend a day or two with her there.  Most of my Round nieces and nephews and their families are “Mainiacs” and can easily make the trek up to the lake for a day’s visit.

I will enjoy it all, too, if only vicariously.
