The Magic Beach Motel in Vilano Beach was featured in several TV shows before it closed. | Noah Hertz, Jacksonville Today
DISAPPEARING ACT: The Magic Beach Motel will officially close its doors after this weekend and is expected to be demolished by the end of the year. St. Johns County leaders determined last month they could not prevent the demolition of the iconic motel due to a state law governing coastal structures. The county recognizes the building as a significant cultural resource, but it was not officially designated a historic landmark. After demolition, condos and retail are planned to take its place. Before then, you can book a final stay for this weekend. (News4Jax)
The King’s Head British Pub closed last September. A new European-themed gastropub will replace it next month. | Dan Scanlan, Jacksonville Today
EURO PUB OPENING: Just over a year after the King’s Head British Pub closed its doors and Brexited St. Augustine, Europe has once again conquered its former space on US-1. The Wobbly Whale gastropub will open its doors Oct. 4. The owners kept the tudor-style building intact, with a fresh paint job and a new roof. The new bar will serve European beers and food, with a menu that includes German brats, Spanish chicharrones, and, of course, fish and chips. (Jacksonville Business Journal)
