“Men Unworthy of the Name Spaniard” – Discover St. Augustine’s Powerful Reaction to the War of 1812!
Presented by James G. Cusick, PhD
While the War of 1812 raged, St. Augustine found itself caught in the crossfire of global conflict. Under Spanish rule but facing American expansionist pressure, the city became a hotbed of intrigue, alliances, and resistance. From smugglers and spies to soldiers and settlers, this fascinating era shaped the region’s future in unexpected ways. Renowned historian James G. Cusick, PhD, will bring this turbulent period to life in a dynamic presentation at the historic Peña-Peck House Museum & Gift Shop. Join us to explore the complex loyalties and dramatic events that unfolded in St. Augustine as nations vied for power.
About the Speaker: James G. Cusick, PhD, is the curator of the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History at the University of Florida, specializing in Florida’s colonial and 19th-century history. He is the author of The Other War of 1812: The Patriot War and the American Invasion of Spanish East Florida and has worked extensively to educate and preserve Florida’s rich past. His expertise and engaging storytelling will captivate history enthusiasts of all ages.
