P.A.St.A. Art Gallery featured artist for October: Valarie Pothier
Valarie Pothier-Forrester received her Bachelor of Art Education and her Master of Arts from the University of Florida, and worked as an artist for the Florida Museum of Natural History and taught taught art in Alachua County for almost 30 years at the high school and middle school levels before moving to St. Augustine where she is active painter and creator. As featured artist of the month, her work will be on display through October at P.A.St.A Art Gallery. Contemporary Chronicles of St. Augustine at Lightner Museum
Contemporary Chronicles of St. Augustine explores the urban fabric of St. Augustine through large-format photographs, hand drawn maps, and interactive photographic flip books. The project seeks to define St. Augustine through the residential streets and neighborhoods that have long been inhabited by the people that help support the city as a premier tourist destination. Through interactive sequential images, visitors to the exhibition will uncover the overlooked aspects of everyday life in America’s oldest city. Handstitched Worlds: The Cartography of Quilts invites viewers to read quilts as maps, tracing the paths of individual stories and experiences that illuminate larger historic events and cultural trends. Spanning the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries, the exhibition brings together 18 quilts from the collection of the American Folk Art Museum, New York, representing a range of materials, motifs, and techniques—from traditional early American quilts to more contemporary sculptural assemblage. For her first solo museum exhibition, Audrey Hope presents a selection of collages, photographs, and mixed media sculptures. Titled Disappointed Tourist, the series is a deeply personal meditation on nature, religion, personal trauma, and creativity. The Sally A. Kellogg Lecture Series – “Uncovering Black Society in 19th Century Florida” Virtual Event
The Ximenez-Fatio House Museum and the National Society of Colonial Dame of America in the State of Florida along with grant support from the James and Sally Anne Kellogg Fund are proud to present: “Uncovering Black Society in 19th Century Florida”, a series of four virtual presentations. As a continuation of the popular “I Lived Here As Well” experience, the museum will further explore the lives of early Black Floridians and learn more about some of the invisible hands portrayed in their annual program. Florine Démosthène: Always in All Ways Exhibition
The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum will kick off the Fall season with a solo exhibition by M. Florine Démosthène, entitled Always in All Ways. The exhibition will include twelve new mixed media works on paper as well as new sculptures. In Always in All Ways Démosthène continues to investigate the conflict between the traditional, ethereal, western, and contemporary ideas of love. Informed, in part, by Démosthène’s time spent living in Accra, Ghana, these new works that incorporate collage, ink, pigment stick, glitter, along with three-dimensional objects, reflect a personal contemplation of what it means to embody the concept of “love.” Admission is free. Tactile Show at St. Augustine Art Association
Touch the artwork, please! October is National Sensory Processing Awareness Month and the St. Augustine Art Association is once again hosting the Tactile exhibit with the Florida DeafBlind Association and Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. The annual Tactile Art Show turns the tables on museum etiquette and creates a fun and interactive opportunity for visitors to experience art in a unique way. The PXG Women’s Professional Match Play Championship
Sixty-four of the world’s best up-and-coming women players will compete with two tournaments, each with its own purse.
