The Goodby Creek Paddle

By Peter Clayton

Weather-wise we had a spectacular day for our paddle and we were able to pull out at Wicked Barley’s beach for lunch which we enjoyed outside.

Our start was delayed a little as Mike Sprinkle had a “senior moment” – he forgot his paddle – but Bud drove him to a nearby Walmart to resolve the omission. We were in the water just before 10:00 and taking our rest stop at Tomahawk Park an hour later.

This urban paddle goes past residential neighborhoods starting with large apartments and condos then becoming homes both luxurious and middling. While narrow, the waterway wasn’t clogged at all and we saw Canada geese and ibis along the route. Wicked Barley provided plenty of grub and beer and we had a short paddle back to the dock. Photos follow – many thanks to today’s participants.
