St. Johns County Receives 800 COVID-19 Vaccines, Appointment Registration Opens Thursday, January 7

St. Johns County received a second allotment of 800 vaccines from the State of Florida today. Online registration to make a vaccination appointment will open at 9 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, for appointments on Friday, January 8.

A registration link will be announced Wednesday. All appointments prior to Friday are allocated to those on the waiting list compiled by the Department of Health.

Additional appointments will become available when St. Johns County receives more vaccines from the State of Florida.

    Opinion:

    The availability of the Eventbrite app will be an improvement, but it’s not a “best practice” solution for those signing up. The anticipated SJC software will be efficient for the County, but will continue to cause anxiety for its citizens.

    The Nassau County use of Eventbrite seems like a great model. It allows signing up ay any time, regardless of vaccine supply. The software assigns a ticket number which can be used to call a hotline and appointments are made based on vaccine availability. Everyone signs up once and there is no stampede every time a shipment is received.

    The proposed SJC app will cut off registrations when the available supply of vaccines is spoken for. This will cause a mad rush and heighten anxiety every time a shipment is received by the county. More convenient for SJC, but far from a “best practice” for the people.
