County Commission Meeting 12/20 ReCap Recognition of the retirements of 3 public servants Gail Oliver, Director of Land Management – 1993, first and only female surveyor in St. Johns County. She was instrumental in the purchase of the Genovar property on 312 and the river for use as a park and boat ramp. Chief Prevatt – started in 1980 as a P/T employee. 1983 – 14 employees in the fire department – over 300 now. His entire working life has been in service to St. Johns County. 40 years of service. Judge Chuck Tinlin – (Marsh Creek Resident) 32 years of service to St. Johns County. Longest tenured service in the County. 6 US Presidents, 7 Florida Governors, longer than any Florida or US Supreme Court Justice. He’s looking forward to more time to surf! Recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness Month by Commissioner Joseph, accepted by Kiki Karpen of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) Stats from Sheriff Hardwick – Human Trafficking is every month for us. 4000 cases were worked in Florida from 2020 to today. Avg age 11. 20 high profile cases in SJC alone since Sheriff Hardwick took office. Public Safety Update SJSO – Remind everyone to lock your car doors. Biggest issue right now. People will be taking part in Holiday spirits – SJSO ran DUI checkpoints last week and had 15 arrests. Fire Rescue – special recognition of Chief Prevatt and uniformed Fire Rescue and SJSO personnel to join at the front of the room. Impressive array! A 43-year career serving the community. Has literally helped thousands of people, with many lives saved. Clerk of Court’s Report – several audits planned for 2023. Details can be found on the Clerk of Courts website.
