Spoonbill Neighbors Update December 2021

By Louise Nelson

Spoonbill Neighbors really got into the holiday spirit in December!

Lisa and David Stern, Lorri Maloney and Tim Nichols

On December 3rd, the Happy Hour group held its second gathering at the home of Lisa and David Stern. The theme was “Fiesta”! and drew twenty-six neighbors. The generous hosts provided a variety of margaritas and guests brought appetizers. It was a beautiful kick-off to the holidays, and all are looking forward to the next one which is scheduled for this month but may be postponed due to Covid. Lisa Stern and Lorri Maloney are co-group leads.

On December 9th, Arts & Crafts held an event at Sherry’s Art Studio.  Turnout was great, and everyone learned to create “beachy” Christmas ornaments using a frosted pane, twine, and shells. Lorri Maloney and Lisa Stern are co-group leads.

On December 9th, Dining In couples convened at John and Meri-Kathryn Peed’s home, both to celebrate the holidays and to make organization plans for the future. This year, the 24 members will be divided up into three groups of 4 couples and each group will meet every other month at their homes for a shared meal of good conversation and tasty home cooking. And likely, some wine.

On December 10th & again on December 24th, Marsh Creek residents came together to produce this community’s first-ever Nights of Lights.  Streets were lined by runways of flickering paper bags illuminating the darkened December streets. Sometimes they reached down into cul-de-sacs that were bursting with Christmas colors and decorations. The response was overwhelming!  Some streets competed to see who put on the best lighting show, or served the best chili and cookies… there were way-stations with food and beverages for thirsty sight-seers, and a number of patio and porch parties, all adding up to two wonderful nights in Marsh Creek.

Next year we hope to have a charity component to this event.

All in all, despite Covid 19 and its variants, it was a great first year for SPOONBILL NEIGHBORS, and we look forward to a better one here in 2022.

A big thank you to all the group leaders who have volunteered their time and effort to make Spoonbill Neighbors a success for the enjoyment of all Marsh Creek Residents. GO TEAM!

These are just a few of the Spoonbill Neighbors’ Group activities available to all enrolled Marsh Creek Neighbors! We formed our group so Marsh Creek residents could meet and socialize. Groups include Arts and Crafts, Book Club, Dining In, Dining Out Ladies & Dining Out Couples, Mahjong, Garden Club, Happy Hour, Lunch Bunch, Malt & Cigars, Outreach, Walking, Wine Lovers and Welcome Committee.

In the new year, we hope to introduce a Sports Group (women kayaking, fishing, tennis…) if there is interest. We are also looking for a volunteer to lead the Dining Out Couples Group.  Pattie Nolton is graciously acting lead for the moment.

Again, if you are a Marsh Creek Resident and want to join, please contact Meri-Kathryn Peed (MKPeed@aol.com) or Louise Nelson (lzn@mindspring.com) for more information.

Best Wishes for a healthy, happy and peaceful 2022!
