Brian,
Thanks for publishing and keeping us current on the virus and vaccinations. We thought the time was right to get in the virtual vaccine line, since we have friends over 65 in other counties who signed up by phone or website and received appointments in January. St. Johns seems to be lagging.
Quick perspective (statistics attached):
As of 12/30, Florida has provided 175,000 vaccinations. That’s just under 1% of Florida’s 22 million residents. 3,200 vaccinations have been administered in St. Johns county. That’s 1.3% of the population of about 250,000. We’re obviously at the very beginning of this adventure.
It looks like the Florida department is starting to roll out a sign up process for the counties. Here is an example in Marion County:
Marion County residents ages 65 and older are now able to sign up for a COVID-19 vaccination. Visit http://marion.floridahealth.gov/newsroom/2020/12/12_28.html for more information.
To sign up, visit https://tinyurl.com/y98cxp6s. A hotline dedicated to registering is provided for those without internet access.
Seems logical. I spun through the official notice you posted, expecting to find some type of sign up sheet. Instead, I was greeted with bureaucracy at it’s finest!
The most recent published info as of 12/29 is in black. My comments in blue.

Why even mention unavailable slots? Seems like it adds to the confusion.

This appears to be an active text number, since a robo-responder asks for a zip code. The text number was published about a week ago. No response for 72 hours (and counting) after responding with the zip code.
Thank you Brian for publishing this information. And thank you Gerry Kurth for sharing your attempt to register for the vaccine. How frustrating!
The County probably isn’t getting the vaccines or the funds to be able to effectivly execute the process.
Stay safe.
