Tropical storms have the potential of becoming hurricanes. Maybe not this one. But they can strengthen as they churn across warm waters of the Gulf and South Atlantic, sucking up additional power as they go.
These storms determine their own paths. They don’t always follow even the best projections of the National Hurricane Center.
So, let’s keep a close eye on this storm, and if nothing else, use it as a test run for our family preparations (see yesterday’s Spoonbill Courier story).

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the west coast of the Florida peninsula south of the Middle of Longboat Key and for the east coast of the Florida peninsula south of the Volusia/Brevard County line, including Lake Okeechobee. The system is expected to become a tropical depression on Friday and a tropical storm late Friday or Friday night. * Formation chance through 48 hours...high...90 percent. * Formation chance through 5 days...high...90 percent.
