Six Mile Creek’s launch area and parking lot is currently the site of major construction activity as the new Outback Crab Shack restaurant building is being elevated to meet permitting requirements – fortunately Trout Creek is just up the road and provided a Plan B for our Wednesday paddle. We were in the water by 8:55, enjoying partly cloudy conditions with reasonable temps and no rain threat. .When we reached our usual halfway rest stop at Mrs. Knowles’ lot, we noticed the water level was down 10-12′, making pull-out a one boat at a time proposition which three of us did while the other six floated. We returned with a 12-14 mph breeze in our faces which built up our appetite for Woodpeckers’ BBQ, our lunch stop.
Our first overnight of 2023 is planned for Jan. 17-19 with High Springs our destination (only 1.5 hrs. drive). We’ll paddle the Santa Fe and Ichectuknee Springs – always favorites because of the multiple springs, clear water and pristine surroundings. Let me know if you’re interested.
