Spoonbill Courier

DEAR DAPHNE #1

Daphne has agreed to moderate this column regularly as a voice for Marsh Creek’s four-legged companions.

Hi everyone. I’m Daphne, a 5-year old Standard Poodle. I live with my human mom and dad (Rickie Rubenstein and Ben Leaderman). I’m very excited about the Spoonbill Courier that “Crazy Uncle Brian” (long story) has started as it offers so many opportunities for our community to learn about each other. That’s why I thought it would be a great idea if we—the beloved pets of Marsh Creek—had our own forum to get to know each other and share experiences.

A little about me: I’m very fond of humans, dogs (well, most), and cats (maybe not so much), though I’ve had no contact with other pets (koi and the like). The deer and I ignore each other, though a squirrel definitely will draw my attention (darn leash won’t let me give chase; sorry, Mom, if I pull your shoulder), and then there are the geckos…. l love to run and play, and a treat will get you wags and kisses every time!

Let’s get to know each other! I’ve met a lot of pups on the south side of the Jerry Scheid Thunder Bridge, but there are so many more of you on both sides that I’ve yet to meet. Here’s your chance to make yourselves known! Send me your questions (I can get Mom to google what I don’t know), ideas, and suggestions. We can introduce new members of our community, and say farewell to those who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Send your emails to Daphne4legs@gmail.com.

Here’s an example of what we can share: For just a few clicks each day, your folks can donate kibble and supplies to animal shelters? My mom gets emails every day from the Animal Rescue Site (which also sells great stuff that makes another donation) and free kibble. (answer a question about dogs or cats and the site donates, whether or not you’re correct). This is just a hint of what we can accomplish!

So, send me an email, picture, or video, and I’ll share it with that dog-lover who publishes the Spoonbill Courier. See you ‘round the hood!

Woof, woof!
Daphne

  1. Daphne, dear
It has been a long time since we have visited in your living room or on the roadways of the creek. Usually I’d be on my bike and run into you and your mom in the back forty. I was always impressed at how patient you were waiting calmly while ricki and I talked tennis, politics, and sporadic civil nonsense.
Often you’d look rather snazzy after a grooming session or on an every day jaunt in the hood. Your breed is a rather stunning example of four legged friends… and those cute bows made you seem pretty special.

Most furry friends in the creek must have intriguing thoughts as their humans chatter, visit, and walk the hood. Could you, would you share some of your thoughts on your observations and perceptions when creek humans communicate? We often hear that a dog is a humans best friend: do you feel there is truth in this statement? Do you feel your best friend is your human or do you long for more four legged friends and companions? And lastly, dear daphne: do you and your breed believe that cats have the most power over humans? It’s an age old story and an ongoing conundrum: I feel certain you could clarify this question!
    Sincerely
    Victoria

  2. Daphne,
Great seeing you last night…..and thanks for telling my mom about this site. I look forward to hearing about all the other fur babies in Marsh Creek.
    See you around the block.

  3. Hi Daphne….Thanks for being our Marsh Creek “voice”….Ollie and Sammy say “good job”!

  4. Hi Daphne,
This is your BFF, Paislee. I am so glad you are doing this for the community. It is a good way to make more doggie and kitty friends.
I would like to become friends with those big doggies in the neighborhood and I pull my mom and dad all over the neighborhood to try and chase them. Help!! How do I stop doing that?
