WOOF!! WOOF!! WAG!! WAG!!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!! I hope you and your 4-legged and human families have a wonderful holiday! I have so much to be thankful for—a warm bed (well, actually more than one), good food, loving family, wonderful friends (dogs and people)! What more could a (possibly spoiled) Poodle ask for?
But please be careful over the holidays! Many of those wonderfully smelling foods are actually harmful to us pets. The especially toxic ones include turkey (bones/skin/gravy), stuffing, casseroles, mashed potatoes, creamed peas, chocolate, alcoholic beverages, raisins/grapes, onions/scallions/garlic, ham, yeast dough, fatty foods, and foods containing spices (details at akc.org).
But there’s plenty of good stuff for us—though not too much, please: plain sweet/boiled/baked potatoes, apples, turkey (meat only), green beans, plain peas, pumpkin, and frozen yogurt. So, not to worry, we get to feast as well!
A Veritable Feast of Pups!
Speaking of feasting—and here I mean friendships—I had the most wonderful morning walk recently! I usually meet some of my buddies along the way, but on that day, it was a festival of pooches! Check out this pic of fellow four-leggers Shandora (Manila Clough), Mack (Carole Anzivino), me (hiding between Mom’s legs due to a bad-hair day), and Mac and Jac (Terese Veach).
Wags and Whiskers Fundraiser
Dear Daphne,
Marsh Creek Country Club hosted a fun tennis, golf, and food fundraiser event for Wags and Whiskers Pet Rescue on November 16. In addition to a silent auction, the nice ladies brought lots of adoptable “brothers and sisters”. I was invited to attend, but Mom and Dad (Irene & Frank Merenda) left me home because, well, I’m not always the friendliest guy when it come to leash manners. I’m told there were some great appetizers and drinks for the humans, and treats of all sizes for the 4-leggers. If any of your paw-rents (or pet-less folks) are looking for a family addition, take a look at these cute pups and young adults. They also have many adoptable cats and kittens but, like me, they didn’t attend. Tell your humans to contact wagsandwhiskersdogs@yahoo.com for more information about adoption or ways to support this wonderful organization.
Your (virtual) friend, Max
Dear Max, Thank you so much for reporting on this wonderful event! I’m sorry I couldn’t attend, but so glad to learn that mucho money was raised for this important cause!
Letter from (Hopefully) New Friends
Dear Daphne,
I hope you’re happy today! Archie, Trumpy Boat, and Penny Lane (Michele Miller) saying hi! It’s been a great day, helping Dad cut grass and check the sprinkler system. Black Labs and water…..the BEST!
Hoping to meet you soon, the Crew
Dear Miller Crew, How nice to hear from you, and hope to meet you soon
! Yes, I know all about black labs and water! When I play with my dear friend, Lucy, she always goes for the puddles (to her mom’s dismay)!
Chaos Leaps Over the Rainbow Bridge
My condolences to Pat King on the loss of her precious cat, Chaos. Chaos wrote “Dear Daphne” over a year ago, and I’ve kept up with her adventures since then. Farewell, sweet girl. (A note for my human readers: There’s an AKC Pet Loss Support Group on Facebook.)
National Dog Show
Finally, don’t forget to watch the National Dog Show on Thursday, right after Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade! May the best pooch win! (Of course, I’m rooting for the Standard Poodle, although I have some opinions about the grooming.)
Til next time, have great walks, enjoy new sniffs, and wag often! (And make sure your parents and walkers pick up and PROPERLY dispose of your poop!)
Woof!
Daphne
