Discretion is the better part of valor. With the recent spike in Covid-19 cases in Northeast Florida, particularly those caused by the highly contagious Delta variant, the St. Augustine Music Festival has made the difficult decision to postpone our concerts scheduled for August 20th and 21st. While sharing our music with you could not be more important to us, the health and safety of our musicians, staff, and our patrons supersede it. Having just completed a very successful spring and early summer season only increases our disappointment. We presented numerous beautiful and highly attended concerts, including our first annual Juneteenth event, at both the Basilica and St. Augustine Amphitheater. Your support of and response to those concerts could not have been better or more appreciated. We will be announcing exciting new access to our music with encore performances of this year’s concerts. As always, thank you for your support. • • SAVE THE DATE • • Saint Augustine Music Festival is proud to partner with Beaches Fine Arts Series to present concert pianist María Dolores Gaitán as part of an international collaborative event – 1781 Tribute – on November 6 at the Cathedral Basilica. 1781 Tribute celebrates 240 years of friendship and cooperation between Spain and the United States. This international tour of eight concerts began during the summer in Spain, with concerts in Madrid, Segovia, and Menorca. The concerts will continue in October, with appearances in Washington, D.C., St. Petersburg, and Miami, culminating in St. Augustine. The St. Augustine concert will be live-streamed throughout the US and in Spain. The final concert, in December, will be in Málaga, Spain. Ms. Gaitán, the winner of many international competitions, is renowned in Europe for her energy and interpretive musicality. Ms. Gaitán has distinguished herself as an artist “Marca España” (España Global) for her artistic quality research and as a representative of Spanish talent worldwide. She was chosen by EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) as a representative of Spanish musical culture in Italy, and she has concertized throughout Europe, both in recitals and with orchestras. As part of this extraordinary concert, Ms. Gaitán will perform a duet by Manuel de Falla with the Artistic Director of SAMF, Mr. Jorge Peña, violist of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. • • FROM THE CHAIRMAN’S DESK • • We are pleased that we were able to offer our patrons, subscribers, and devoted audience nine free live concerts this season including our SUNDAYS with SAMF events, Juneteenth, and June 24, 25, and 26 in Cathedral Basilica. This was an increase from our past six-concert series the last two weeks in June. We built partnerships with historic and cultural venues in St. Augustine and expanded our reach into the community while continuing our mission to bring free World Class Music in World Class Settings. We are fortunate that we have excellent video footage of our 2021 events and professional sound recordings of each concert. Once edited we will announce a program to share these concerts through various media platforms. Please continue to visit our website for updates. Our website will soon have a fresh look with new features, stories, updates, and links to our archive of concerts and events. Our next scheduled live concert is our collaboration with Beaches Fine Arts on November 6th. Take a moment to learn more about the significance of this concert and the relationship between Spain and the US. www.1781tribute.org. The SAMF board is now looking toward 2022. We are planning more of our successful SUNDAYS with SAMF chamber concerts, our 2nd Juneteenth celebratory concert, and additional SAMF2022 concerts throughout the season including our June six-concert series in Cathedral Basilica. This energetic vision can only happen with your continued support. Thank you for helping the SAMF mission to Educate, Elevate and Entertain.
