It was Tuesday afternoon, and the Atlantic was beginning to churn with high winds and dangerous waves, the early envoys of Tropical Storm Nichole.
But surfers, and especially kite surfers, don’t see danger in these conditions, only opportunity. Provided they are talented enough to take the risk of playing in these waters.
For more than 40 minutes, a lone surfer with amazing stamina made run-after-run, from close inshore to well out off-shore, at times using the winds to race at high speed, and at others pulling his brightly colored sail into a charge at a roiling wave, soaring high up into the air for a few exhilarating moment of flight.
A magnificent performance. (Next time, hopefully some worthy video).
