Picturing a Nation: American Art from the Lightner Museum
Picturing a Nation is a major installation of American paintings and sculpture from the Lightner Museum’s permanent collection. From America’s great vistas and natural wonders, to intimate scenes of St. Augustine, Picturing a Nation presents a vibrant vision of America on a local and national scale through late-19th and early 20th century American art. The exhibition runs through September 30, 2022. Tom Schifanella: Faces of the Alcazar at Lightner Museum
Faces of the Alcazar presents a compelling glimpse of life behind-the-scenes at Henry Flagler’s Alcazar Hotel. Through large-format photographs, the exhibition documents fragmentary clippings from early-20th century motion picture magazines pasted to the walls of the Alcazar staff quarters by the immigrant staff who lived and worked at the hotel. Bouke de Vries: War & Pieces at Lightner Museum
This exhibition of London-based Dutch artist Bouke De Vries’ War & Pieces has been described as a “masterwork” by art critics. The monumental artwork, crafted from thousands of fragments of porcelain, reimagines the decorative centerpieces that adorned seventeenth- and eighteenth-century banquet tables. La Vie En Bleu: The Life & Art of Marguerite Castaing at St. Augustine Art Association

Parade at Limelight Theatre
Limelight Theatre of St. Augustine presents “PARADE”, live onstage from August 5 – September 4, 2022. Parade is the story set in 1913, when Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jew living in Georgia, is put on trial for the murder of thirteen-year-old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employ. Kayaking Deep Creek Conservation Area
This freshwater creek is 16 miles southwest of St. Augustine, along SR 207. There are 5,642 acres of floodplain swamps with 5.5 miles of waterway from the SR 207 launch site opening into the St. Johns River. Paddlers may see turtles, alligators, water birds and sightings of manatee and river otters. This is a flatwater ecotour that is protected from high winds and very little tidal flow. Cost is $55 per person and includes kayak gear and instruction. The tour leaves from the Deep Creek Kayak Launch located on SR 207 at SR 206. Check the website for launch times. Beach Exploration at the GTM Research Reserve
Join GTM Research Reserve docents from 9-11 a.m. for a beach walk! You will learn about the animals that call the beach their home, as well as seashells and other interesting facts. Join the Lightner Museum for a painting workshop led by our August Lightner Local artist, Gail Beveridge. Gail will demonstrate how to take a scene and make it your own personal statement. We will work from photos and start with quick sketches or notans to develop the concept and then spend the rest of the workshop on a painting. Gail will work in oils, but students can work in other media. This workshop is for those with knowledge of the basics and some painting experience. The workshop will be hosted indoors at the Lightner Museum. Directed by Pedro Almodovar, Pain and Glory follows Salvador Mallo, a film director in his physical decline who reencounters or remembers his past: his childhood in a village, the first desire, his first adult love in 80s Madrid, the pain of that breakup.
