Paddling Julington Creek

By Peter Clayton

Eight of us met up at Palmetto Leaves County Park at 8:30 to unload boats before Bud and Ned headed to the take-out at Mandarin Park to leave Bud’s SUV. By 9:30, we were all in the water which was slightly higher than past outings, all but one managing to use the floating single boat launch set-up. It was cloudy and warm with no breeze and no other boats until a fisherman was passed in his power boat. Wildlife was minimal – a few birds – we pulled into Clark’s Fish Camp at 11:30 where Tom decided he’d meet us later taking a pass on the remaining 2.5 miles which were on open water. We had a slight breeze at our backs for that leg but the tide was still incoming and there was some chop – after we went under the San Jose Blvd. bridge the chop was coming at us making for a more strenuous finish. By 1:15 we were sitting at our table at Julington Creek Fish Camp where a great meal was enjoyed by all.

  1. Hi Peter, I spoke with you in the spring about doing some day paddles with your group. I have returned from CO and am ready to go. Would you please add my e-mail to your to your paddle announcements? Thank you.
