On Tuesday afternoon, the St. Johns County Commission voted to reactivate the Land Acquisition and Management Program (LAMP) ordinance, appoint a LAMP Advisory Board, and fund the program with $500,000 to acquire and preserve environmentally sensitive land in St. Johns County. 

This is a HUGE win for natural areas in St. Johns County and a step towards ensuring that rapid development is being counter-balanced by protection of natural resources in order to preserve our quality of life.

When you see Commissioner Henry Dean around (photo above), stop and say, “Thank you Commissioner Henry Dean” for taking a stand for keeping our county beautiful!.  Henry Dean, a regular around the Club and a neighbor, is a leader on the County Commission.  It was his leadership, along with Commissioners Jeremiah Blocker and Christian Whitehurst who took a stand for preservation.

The other big news is that the Commission turned down, on a 5-0 vote, a development called Winding Oaks slated for 207 and 95.  This is very important because if approved this would have been a major stepping stone for the argument to build the massive Parrish Farms.

And a BIG Thank you to everyone who called or wrote to our Commission in support of the LAMP program. You spoke up and your voices were heard.
