Marsh Creek Kayakers – Haw Creek 11-18-2020

It was embarrassing, humiliating, and discouraging every time my butt crashed onto the seat. But there was just no other way to do it. It required knees of an adolescent gymnast.

To get in, you spread-eagle across the bow, bend the knees as much as you can reach below and back behind for the edge of the kayak. People grip the craft so it doesn’t tip as your prepare to land. But you can’t get low enough. You don’t find your support. And gravity takes over and you just go with the flow.

“BANG!”.

You’ve landed. The worst is over. Well, not quite. Getting out was worse. Four hands pulling a beached whale out to a standing position.

There’s just no way this is good for the ego.

And yet … it was a fabulous, fabulous morning. Here’s why:
