August 30, 2021   Enjoy one of the many live music, art and outdoor events taking place on Florida’s Historic Coast this week. Here is a list of some of the exciting events and activities that make a visit here even more exciting. From River to Ocean: The 200th Anniversary Photography Exhibition  

The 200th Anniversary Photography Exhibition titled “From River to Ocean” will be on display 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday- Friday, through January 3, 2022. Local photographers submitted photography depicting five districts throughout St. Johns County and photos were chosen by a panel to be part of this exhibit. Women Who Made a Difference Exhibit at Lincolnville Museum & Cultural Center  

This exhibit highlights local black women who overcame great obstacles through courage and determination. Featuring local St. Augustinians: Katherine Twine, Mildred Parsons Mason Larkins, Debbie McDade, Janie Young and Barbara Vickers; these women served as teachers, nurses, entertainers, business leaders and community activists. The exhibit includes biographical sketches, personal interviews and shared stories from those whose lives they touched, photographs and other memorabilia from their journeys. The exhibit is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, 17 and under are $5. Lincolnville Museum & Cultural Center, 102 M.L. Wednesday Pier Farmers Market  

The Wednesday Pier Farmers Market offers oceanfront shopping at the St. Johns County Ocean Pier Park from 8 a.m.-noon. Music by the Sea Free Concert  

This free weekly concert series at the St. Johns County Ocean Pier will feature Phoenix from 7-9 p.m. Bring a beach chair or blanket along with a favorite beverage and get ready to dance. Starting at 6 p.m., a local food truck will be on-site. Odd Birds 6th Anniversary Celebration  

The celebration begins on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. kicking off National Whiskey Month with a bourbon tasting drink specials and swag bags for guests. Tickets are $25; then on Thursday from 9 p.m. to midnight guest bartender Ryan Pinés from Buya Ramen in St. Petersburg will be crafting cocktails. On Friday a fun night from 9 p.m. to midnight features discount cocktails, giant Jenga, a photobotth and entertainment by Josh Ford & The Groove Bender On Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight LPT Salsa Band, a 10-piece Afro-Cuban Salsa Orchestra from Jacksonville, will be playing in the Odd Birds Event Room. Yoga on The Lawn  

Enjoy yoga on the lawn at the historic Ximenez-Fatio House Museum. This one-hour vinyasa flow is perfect for all levels. Bring a beach towel or mat and water. Free parking behind the museum is available, but limited. Access the parking lot from Cadiz Street. Instructor will contact you by phone if class is canceled due to weather. First Friday Garden Walk at Washington Oaks  

Join a Ranger to learn about the history of Washington Oaks State Gardens while exploring the formal gardens. The walk starts in the Garden parking lot at 10 a.m. and is approximately one hour. Once at Limelight Theatre

Erika Sobrack: Suburban Echoes at Lightner Museum   Lightner Museum presents Ericka Sobrack: Suburban Echoes as the final Lightner Local exhibition of 2021 series. Sobrack’s small-scale landscape paintings focus on domestic scenes of suburban America. Shrouded in darkness, the paintings deconstruct familiar environments, creating dream-like settings that amplify feelings of anticipation, angst, and trepidation. The exhibition opens during First Friday Artwalk on September 3 (5-6:30 p.m.) and runs through October 18. Benefit Car Show at the Classic Car Museum of St. Augustine  

You don’t want to miss this …. There will be music, food trucks, many door prizes, vintage bicycle raffle and lots more! Guided Exploration Hike at the GTM Research Reserve  

On the first Saturday of the month from 9-11 a.m., visitors can learn about the cultural history of the Guana Peninsula as well as the natural biodiversity during a guided hike. Find out about the peninsula’s 5,000 years of human history, including how native peoples used estuarine resources, what European plantation life was like, and current efforts to learn about and save these resources. Meet at the GTM Research Reserve’s Trailhead Pavilion located west of the Guana Dam. Wear comfortable closed toe shoes. There is a $3 per vehicle parking fee. St. Augustine’s Founder’s Day Celebration  

This day honors the founding of America’s First Parish, the Cathedral of St. Augustine, and St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city. Both were founded together 456 years ago on Sept. 8, 1565, by Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. At 10 a.m. a historical reenactment of the Spanish landing will feature the Historic Florida Militia’s Men of Menendez and the St. Augustine Maritime Heritage Foundation Chalupa followed by a Holy Mass at the rustic altar on the mission grounds.   The event will continue with a Grand Procession at noon to the Fountain of Youth where guests can witness the first Thanksgiving meal.
